Transak alternative for apps with users on mobile money
If your users pay by card or Apple Pay, stay with Transak. If they pay and get paid by bank transfer or mobile money, a Transak alternative fits: the Unigox widget or the Payments API.
When Unigox fits better than Transak
Bank transfer or mobile money users
Each Unigox trade is settled by bank transfer or mobile money with the P2P merchant or payment business that fills it. Transak's payment method tables list bank transfers in EUR and GBP and no mobile money; its other sales pay out to a debit card.
You want payouts inside your own screens
The Payments API runs payouts and collections from your backend, behind your own customer screens. Transak's partner FAQ says off-ramp is not available through its white-label API.
See the Payments APIYou want your markup paid as each sell completes
Your widget markup on a sell is paid in crypto to your partner wallet when the trade completes. Transak pays partner fees between the 4th and 7th of each month, and rolls a balance under $20 into the next month.
When to stay with Transak
Your users pay by card or Apple Pay
Transak takes cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and can show them inside your own app screens.
You want to set your own fee on purchases
Transak's partner fee, up to 5% on top of its own fee, applies to purchases as well as sales. In the Unigox widget, the markup you set applies to sells; on buys you earn a 20% share of the Unigox fee.
You need many tokens or NFT checkout
Transak lists 136+ cryptocurrencies on 45+ blockchains, and sells NFT checkout to apps.
Your users are in the United States
Unigox does not currently offer its services in the United States, while Transak USA LLC holds money transmitter licences in the US states it lists.
Transak vs Unigox for apps
| Topic | Transak | Unigox |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An on-ramp and off-ramp for apps, as a ready-made widget or a white-label API, plus virtual bank accounts, NFT checkout and OTC. | A crypto widget for your website and a Payments API for payouts and collections. |
| Integration | The widget by redirect, iframe, JavaScript SDK or mobile WebView; the white-label API, on-ramp only, for your own screens. A staging key comes at sign-up; production keys and webhooks after KYB approval. | Widget: an embed code with your widget key, and no backend work. Payments API: your backend creates quotes and orders behind your own screens. |
| How users pay and get paid | Cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay in its listed currencies, bank transfer in EUR (SEPA) and GBP, open banking in EUR and GBP, and wire in USD. Sellers get paid to a debit card, or by bank transfer in EUR and GBP. | Bank transfer or mobile money, depending on the P2P merchants and payment businesses online for each currency. |
| Currencies | Every currency on its fiat list takes card payments. The list includes USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, BRL and MXN. | Currencies open and close during the day with the P2P merchants and payment businesses online. |
| Your revenue | A partner fee of up to 5% on top of Transak's own fee, set in the partner dashboard and paid monthly in USDC or USDT. | On buys and sells, 20% of the Unigox fee, paid as agreed when the partnership is set up. On sells, also a markup you set, paid in crypto to your partner wallet when the sell completes. Payments API orders carry your own percentage fee. |
| Cost of an API behind your own screens | White-label API access needs a monthly volume commitment backed by a refundable deposit, or a one-time integration fee of $10,000. | No price list is published: Payments API setup terms are agreed on a call, and each quote shows the Unigox fee. |
| Identity checks | Transak runs KYC in its widget, or reuses checks your platform already did, by API or through Sumsub. | Widget users photograph an identity document and take a short selfie before their first trade, at any amount. |
| Regulation | In the US, money services businesses registered with FinCEN, with money transmitter licences in the states it lists. In the UK, a crypto asset firm registered with the FCA; in Canada, registered with FINTRAC; in Australia, with AUSTRAC. | Unigox works through two companies: UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Canada handles the local-money side and is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business and with the Bank of Canada as a payment service provider; UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Panama handles the crypto side, including wallets and escrow. |
How to start with the Unigox widget or API
Mark Transak's card-only currencies
Tell us which of your users' currencies Transak pays only to a card or not at all, and your expected monthly volume.
Set up your account
The Payments API needs company verification (KYB). For the widget, we set up your partner account and widget key.
Route bank and mobile money users to Unigox
Keep Transak on card checkout and add the Unigox embed code where users pay or cash out by bank transfer or mobile money. For the Payments API, test in the sandbox, then fund your partner wallet in USDT or USDC. Collections arrive there too.
Questions about Transak competitors
Can I add Unigox as a Transak alternative and keep Transak?
Yes. The widget is an embed code and the Payments API a separate integration, so you can keep Transak for card payments and send users who pay by bank transfer or mobile money to Unigox. Widget users verify their identity with Unigox before their first trade, even if they passed Transak's check.
Where does Unigox sit among Transak's competitors?
Unigox is one, for apps whose users pay by bank transfer or mobile money. Our comparison of crypto on-ramps for apps sets Transak next to MoonPay, Banxa, Onramper and Unigox.
Compare crypto on-rampsHow is Unigox different from Transak?
Transak builds its checkout around cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, and lists bank transfers only in EUR, GBP and USD. On Unigox, a P2P merchant or a payment business fills each trade by bank transfer or mobile money.
What does Unigox charge?
Each Payments API quote shows the exchange rate, the Unigox fee, your fee and the total. In the widget, the Unigox fee is already inside the rate your user sees.
Who holds the funds during a widget or API trade?
Widget users trade from their Unigox Wallet, and Payments API payouts are funded from your partner wallet. During a trade the crypto sits in an on-chain escrow that Unigox can release only to the buyer or the seller.
Can my developers test before going live?
Yes. After company verification, they test the Payments API in the sandbox, which has the same endpoints as production.
Add Unigox next to Transak
Keep Transak on card checkout, and send users who pay or cash out by bank transfer or mobile money to the Crypto widget or the Payments API.
