Ripple Payments alternative: payouts to mobile money
Ripple pays out fiat without you holding stablecoins; US-based businesses should stay there. Apps that do hold USDT or USDC and pay or collect from customers by mobile money can use Unigox as a Ripple Payments alternative.
When to stay with Ripple Payments
You want to pay out in fiat without holding stablecoins
Ripple can extend credit and invoice you the next business day, or wait for your wire on each payment. Its payments page says you can send and receive in fiat while Ripple handles the stablecoin conversion. A Unigox payout draws on USDT or USDC already in your partner wallet.
Each of your customers needs a collection account
Ripple Collections gives each customer and end user a virtual account or deposit address and matches every incoming payment to it, where the feature is available. On Unigox, accounts in a customer's own name are EUR and GBP, opened on request once your company has passed KYB.
Your business runs in the United States
Unigox does not currently offer its services in the United States, while Ripple Markets DE LLC holds money transmitter licences across US states and, in New York, a virtual currency licence too.
Ripple Payments and Unigox for payouts and collections
| Topic | Ripple Payments | Unigox |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Ripple's cross-border payments service: accept, hold, exchange and pay out fiat and stablecoins, RLUSD among them, through one integration. Rail's API now sits in Ripple's docs as Ripple Payments (Rail). | An API that pays your customers and collects from them in local currency, by bank or mobile money, while your company holds USDT or USDC. |
| Payout channels | A bank account in every country on its published payout network, and stablecoin payouts to wallets on Ethereum, Solana and Tron, held at venues Ripple configures for your account. Rail's API adds SWIFT payments to bank accounts in other countries. Ripple's sales team handles other requests. | The customer's own bank or mobile money account, in the local currencies Unigox serves. |
| Funding payouts | One method that Ripple sets at onboarding: a prefunded balance in fiat or crypto, credit invoiced the next business day, or a wire sent for each payment. | USDT or USDC topped up in your partner wallet ahead of the payout; your server signs each transfer out of it. |
| Collecting from customers | Stablecoin and fiat inflows converted to the currency you choose and settled to one account; Ripple Collections adds per-customer virtual accounts and payment links where available. | Your customer pays by bank transfer or mobile money, and USDT or USDC reaches your partner wallet when that payment is confirmed. |
| Pricing | No public price list: the payments pages lead to its sales team. Each Payments Direct quote states the exchange rate, fees and any tax on Ripple's service fees, and expires. | Each quote shows the rate, the Unigox fee, your own fee and the total; the Unigox fee varies with the currency and payment method. |
| Getting started | Sign a service agreement, let your Ripple representative configure corridors and access, then set up users and API credentials in the Payments Direct UI. | A call to agree markets and setup, then KYB for your company. API keys and a sandbox with the same endpoints as production follow approval. |
| Regulation | The Ripple group names a NYDFS trust company charter, US money transmitter licences held by Ripple Markets DE LLC (NMLS 2314015), and permissions in the UAE (DFSA), Singapore (MAS), the EU and the UK. | Unigox works through two companies: UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Canada handles the local-money side and is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business and with the Bank of Canada as a payment service provider; UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Panama handles the crypto side, including wallets and escrow. |
Add Unigox beside Ripple Payments
Name your mobile money countries
Name the countries where your customers want mobile money, then send your company documents. Your Ripple service agreement and onboarding do not carry over, and API credentials follow approval.
Route by payment method in the sandbox
Keep bank payouts on Ripple where its network serves the country, and send mobile money payouts and collections to Unigox: request a quote, create the order, sign the transfer.
Fund the partner wallet and verify customers
Top up USDT or USDC in the partner wallet for the mobile money flows only. Bank payouts on Ripple keep drawing on the funding method you agreed with Ripple. Each customer you route to Unigox passes a Unigox identity check, or reuses an eligible Sumsub or Persona check.
Questions about Ripple Payments and Unigox
What is a Ripple Payments alternative for mobile money?
Unigox, through its Payments API: your company holds USDT or USDC, and Unigox pays your customers to their mobile money or bank accounts, or collects from them the same ways. Ripple's published payout network lists a bank account as the payout channel in each country, and its docs add stablecoin payouts to wallets held at venues configured for the account.
See the Payments APIWhat happened to Rail after the Ripple deal?
Ripple announced a $200 million deal to buy Rail, adding Rail's virtual accounts and back-office tools to Ripple Payments. rail.io now redirects to ripple.com, and Ripple's docs list the Rail API as Ripple Payments (Rail). A Rail customer that needs mobile money payouts against USDT or USDC can add Unigox next to it.
What does a Ripple Payments quote show, next to a Unigox one?
Ripple publishes no price list: its payments pages lead to a sales conversation, and each Payments Direct quote states the exchange rate, fees and any tax on Ripple's service fees. A Unigox quote shows the rate, the Unigox fee, your own fee and the total, and your fee reaches your partner wallet when the order completes.
Can a fintech run Ripple Payments and Unigox together?
Yes. They are separate integrations, each with its own company check. Bank payouts in Ripple's corridors can stay on Ripple, on credit or a prefunded balance, while mobile money payouts and collections run through Unigox from a partner wallet you fund in USDT or USDC.
