Onafriq alternative for payouts funded in USDT
Onafriq, formerly MFS Africa, settles pay-ins in US dollars and does not say how payouts are funded. Unigox, an Onafriq alternative, funds African bank and mobile money payouts from USDT or USDC. Stay with Onafriq for cash pick-up and cards.
When to stay with Onafriq
People collect your payouts as cash
Onafriq pays salaries, loans and grants to offline agents for cash pick-up as well as to mobile money wallets and bank accounts. A Unigox payout reaches only the customer's own bank or mobile money account, after that customer passes an identity check with Unigox.
You take cards or issue them
Onafriq takes pay-ins by card, cash or mobile wallet, and runs physical and virtual prepaid card programmes with BIN sponsorship and Visa, Verve and Mastercard certification. Unigox collects by bank transfer or mobile money and issues no cards.
You want settlement in dollars at your bank
Onafriq settles pay-ins in US dollars to your main bank account and offers one settlement currency across markets through its FX partners. On Unigox, payouts are funded and collections settled only in USDT or USDC.
Onafriq and Unigox for African payouts
| Topic | Onafriq | Unigox |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Enterprises, non-bank financial institutions, mobile network operators, money transfer organisations, development organisations and banks, on one network of mobile wallets and bank accounts. Formerly MFS Africa. | A company holding USDT or USDC that pays its own verified customers in local currency by bank or mobile money, or collects from them. |
| Funding payouts | Not set out on its payouts or treasury pages. Onafriq offers partners USDC settlement with Circle as an extra option, funds its own treasury in USDC through Conduit and plans stablecoin services with Privy. | USDT or USDC in your partner wallet. Your server signs each transfer into on-chain escrow; a funded payout that stops waits there until your server signs the refund. |
| Where a payout lands | Mobile money wallets, bank accounts or offline agents for cash pick-up, singly or in bulk, in one country or several, from a portal or by API. | The customer's own bank or mobile money account, paid by a payment business connected to Unigox or an individual P2P merchant. You can limit any quote to payment businesses only. |
| Collections | Card, cash and mobile wallet pay-ins across several countries, settled in US dollars to your main bank account. | Bank transfer or mobile money. When the payment is confirmed, USDT or USDC is released into your partner wallet. |
| Pricing | No price list on onafriq.com; the product pages lead to Contact Sales, Let's Chat or Book a demo. | Priced per order: the quote shows the rate, the Unigox fee for that currency and method, your percentage and the total. An order that does not complete is not charged. |
| Integration | A plug-and-play payment portal or an API reached through a virtual private cloud. Onafriq's team recommends one, then supports testing. | A REST API that authenticates each call with an X-API-Key header. After KYB, api-staging.unigox.com mirrors production, with a Postman collection and request-signing samples in three languages. |
| Regulation | Onafriq says it holds licences in Mauritius, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and the United Kingdom, among other markets. | Unigox works through two companies: UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Canada handles the local-money side and is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business and with the Bank of Canada as a payment service provider; UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Panama handles the crypto side, including wallets and escrow. |
Move USDT-funded payouts from Onafriq
Name your African markets, then pass KYB
Agree your markets and setup with the Unigox team, then send your company documents for KYB. Onboarding done with Onafriq does not transfer; API keys follow approval.
Rebuild one payout in the sandbox
A payout you send through Onafriq's portal or API becomes a quote, an order and a USDT or USDC transfer your server signs. Run it on api-staging.unigox.com together with the customer's identity check.
Fund the wallet in USDT and keep cash on Onafriq
Send USDT or USDC to your partner wallet and switch to api.unigox.com. Cash pick-up, card pay-ins and fiat-settled flows stay on your Onafriq contract.
Questions about Onafriq alternatives
How does the Onafriq API differ from the Unigox API?
Onafriq connects partners by API over a virtual private cloud or through its payment portal, and its team recommends which one before testing starts. On the Unigox Payments API each payout is a quote plus a USDT or USDC transfer your server signs from your partner wallet, with HMAC-signed webhooks reporting its status.
See the Payments APIIs MFS Africa now Onafriq?
Yes. MFS Africa renamed itself Onafriq. Its founder said the name no longer fit a business that had grown beyond mobile financial services, and that a US company owned the MFS trademark.
Does Onafriq let clients fund payouts in USDC?
Its payouts, pay-ins and treasury pages do not say so. Onafriq has added USDC settlement with Circle as an option for its network partners and uses Conduit for its own treasury. It plans stablecoin services on Privy's infrastructure for partners and, in time, institutional clients where regulation allows. Unigox funds every payout from USDT or USDC in your partner wallet.
Who else competes with Onafriq on mobile money payouts?
Cellulant's Tingg Payouts also disburses funds across Africa to mobile money and bank accounts. Unigox is narrower: payouts and collections for a company whose balance is in USDT or USDC.
