Shakepay alternative that keeps your USDT until you sell it
Shakepay's Auto-swap converts incoming USDT. To keep it as USDT and sell when you choose, Unigox is a Shakepay alternative: a buyer pays your bank while the USDT waits in escrow. For bitcoin, ether or USDC, stay with Shakepay.
When to stay with Shakepay
You buy bitcoin or ether with Canadian dollars
Shakepay charges no commission on bitcoin and ether. It earns a spread it targets at 0.5% to 2% over the market price, and you fund it by free Interac e-Transfer. Unigox trades stablecoins only.
You want interest on US dollars funded with USDC
USDC sent to Shakepay on Ethereum becomes US dollars 1:1. That balance earns 3.5% a year, paid weekly in bitcoin, and CIPF protects USD funds up to $1 million.
You want USDT turned into cash at once
Auto-swap converts USDT sent on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon or Base into Canadian dollars for a 2% fee, from a $10 minimum. The fee and any spread show before you confirm, and the Interac e-Transfer to your bank is free. If you would sell at once anyway, that can leave you more dollars than a P2P sale, so compare both amounts first.
What happens to USDT sent to Shakepay or to Unigox
| Topic | Shakepay | Unigox |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A Canadian app for buying and selling bitcoin and ether, with Canadian and US dollar balances and Interac e-Transfer in and out. | A place to sell USDT and USDC for local money to a P2P merchant or a payment business, and to buy them where a currency allows. |
| Holding USDT | Not possible. Auto-swap converts USDT on arrival into the balance you picked: CAD, USD, bitcoin or ether. USDC becomes US dollars 1:1. | USDT you send in stays USDT in your Unigox Wallet until you sell it. You can move USDT or USDC between Unigox and an outside wallet before or after a trade. |
| Networks for USDT | Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon and Base, through Auto-swap. Other networks, Tron and BNB Smart Chain among them, are not eligible, and tokens sent on them may not be recovered. | USDT for a sale can come in on Tron, TON, Solana or an EVM chain the sell form lists, and the form shows the address for the network you pick. |
| From USDT to your bank | Auto-swap sells the token on decentralised exchanges; the conversion is final. Then an Interac e-Transfer to your bank, up to $10,000 per transfer and usually within an hour, or a free wire for $10,000 or more. | A P2P merchant or a payment business buys the USDT and pays your bank account. During a trade the crypto sits in an on-chain escrow that Unigox can release only to the buyer or the seller. |
| Fees | Auto-swap: 2% into CAD, USD or ether, 1.5% into bitcoin, plus a possible spread by token and network, shown before you confirm. e-Transfers in and out are free. | No separate charge: what you get is the buyer's rate for your amount, with the Unigox fee inside, shown before you accept. |
| What you need to start | A Canadian mobile number (VoIP numbers are refused), a government photo ID and a video selfie. | An identity check before your first trade, whatever the amount. |
| Regulation | Registered with FINTRAC as a money services business. A CIRO member, registered as an investment dealer with the AMF and the securities regulators of every province and territory. | Unigox works through two companies: UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Canada handles the local-money side and is registered with FINTRAC as a money services business and with the Bank of Canada as a payment service provider; UNIGOX NETWORK CORP. in Panama handles the crypto side, including wallets and escrow. |
Switching from Auto-swap to Unigox
Verify before you send USDT in
Open a Unigox account and pass the ID check. It applies from your first trade.
Point incoming USDT at Unigox
Give whoever pays you in USDT your Unigox deposit address instead of your Shakepay Ethereum address, on a network both their wallet and the Unigox sell form list.
Sell when you choose
Pick your currency, add the details the buyer pays to, such as your bank account or your Interac e-Transfer email, and accept the rate. On a P2P sale the USDT stays in escrow until the money reaches you.
Questions about Shakepay, Auto-swap and USDT
Is there a Shakepay alternative that keeps USDT as USDT?
Unigox does: USDT you send in stays USDT in your Unigox Wallet until you sell it to a buyer who pays your bank. Shakepay does not hold USDT. Its Auto-swap converts eligible USDT as it arrives, for a 2% fee into Canadian dollars. USDT paid to you on Tron, which Auto-swap does not take, can be sold on Unigox too.
Is Unigox an app like Shakepay?
For one job only. Shakepay is a bitcoin and ether app; it takes USDC on Ethereum as US dollars and converts USDT through Auto-swap, never holding it. Unigox trades stablecoins: USDT you send in stays USDT, and you choose when to sell it to a buyer who pays your bank.
What fees does Shakepay charge?
No commission on trades: Shakepay earns a spread it targets at 0.5% to 2% over the market price, raised by up to another 1.5% in rough markets. Auto-swap costs 2%, or 1.5% into bitcoin, and a spread may apply. Interac e-Transfers in and out are free, up to $10,000 each, and so are wires from $10,000, though some banks charge for them.
Does Shakepay support USDT and USDC?
USDC, yes, on Ethereum: it lands 1:1 as US dollars that earn interest. USDT only through Auto-swap, on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon or Base, and it is converted rather than kept; Tron and BNB Smart Chain are not eligible. US dollars leave Shakepay only as USDC or to another Shakepay user; there is no USD wire or USD e-Transfer.
Compare a Unigox sale with what Shakepay's Auto-swap pays
Unigox shows what your amount sells for, with its fee inside, before you accept. Set it beside the amount Shakepay's Auto-swap shows on the same day.
